Job Title: Assistant Trip Leader
Hourly Rate: $12.00
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, the Assistant Trip Leader will safely and professionally facilitate patron participation in a variety of Titan Outdoors trips in a variety of outdoor activities.
- Facilitate appropriate safety orientations.
- Instruct all participants in the proper use of Titan Outdoors gear and equipment.
- Enforce Titan Outdoors safety policy at all times.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures in the Titan Outdoors manual.
- Foster a sense of community during trips while maintaining physical and emotional safety of participants.
- Follow trip logistical plans while learning of contingencies and risk management concerns.
- Responsible for preparing accident, missing item and incident reports as required, and contacting appropriate university personnel in case of emergencies within the necessary time frame.
- Must maintain strict adherence to safety procedures and attend safety meetings as scheduled.
- Provide customer service and manage members’ risk.
- Inform members of outdoor adventure programs and services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Must be an enrolled student in or accepted to California State University Fullerton.
Experience:
- Outdoor recreation experience is preferred.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Must maintain outstanding customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain strict safety standards, procedures, and proper technique to reduce risk.
- Must be able to work well with faculty, staff, students, and general public.
- Ability to work with a diverse student population and campus community.
- Must be able to be on time, prepared for work, and adhere to department dress code.
- Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills when working with peers.
- Ability to maintain professional work conduct.
- Ability to adhere to work rules, follow directions, use time effectively and work productively under general supervision.
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
Additional Requirements:
Typical Mental Requirements
- Patience, concentration, and understanding for long periods of time.
- Mental grit to be able to function at a safe and high level in the backcountry for up to nine (9) days
Typical Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully preform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs properly.
- Frequently required to sit, talk, listen and walk; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; clear verbal communication.
- Must be physically able to work indoors and outdoors for a minimum of 8 hours and stand for long periods of time.
- Physically comfortable to be able to sleep in tent and backcountry setting for up to nine (9) days.
Special Requirements
- Required to be limited mandated reporter.
- First Aid, AED, and CPR certification required within thirty (30) days of employment.
- WFA certification required within ninety (90) days of employment
- Will be required to work evenings, nights and weekends as needed.
