Position Title: Marketing and Communications Graduate Assitant 

 

Hourly Compensation: $18.00

 

GENERAL STATEMENT:
Under the direction of the Director of Organizational Communication and Outreach, the Graduate Assistant provides support to the Director in developing the communication and marketing efforts of Associated Students Inc., CSUF (ASI). The Graduate Assistant works independently and within a team environment to research, write, edit, and review content for web, print, podcast, and social media with a focus on promoting and increasing campus awareness of the programs, services, and operations of ASI. The Graduate Assistant will also work with ASI staff and students to create content that will be used to enhance both internal and external ASI communication and marketing.

Hours will not exceed 8 hours per day, or 20 hours per week. Schedule to de be determined based upon office needs and student’s class schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serve as a member of the ASI Marketing, Communications, & Design (MCD) team.
• Assist with development of both internal and external ASI communications including, but not limited to development of written statements, video/virtual content, scripts, and other content.
• Research, write, and edit press releases, features, and copy about ASI departments, programs, and services.
• Assist with the maintenance of the ASI website including, but not limited to updating photos, documents, graphics, videos, and virtual programming.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings, leadership development programs, and trainings.
• Assist with on-going assessment of social media engagement and marketing initiatives.
• Assist with the administration and maintenance of MCD office systems, procedures, and policies.
• Contribute to the creation, promotion, and communications related to ASI departments, programs, and services.
• Conceptualize and pitch cohesive marketing campaigns.
• Provide quality, professional, friendly, and courteous customer service with everyone.
• Be a good teammate.
• Adhere to safety procedures and attend safety meetings as scheduled.
• Carry out other duties as assigned.


Education, Work Experience Requirements and Abilities:

Education and Experience
• B.S./B.A. degree required.
• Must be enrolled/enrolling in a graduate degree program focusing on communication, public relations, marketing, advertising, media, or a related field.

Knowledge and Abilities:
• Must be computer/internet savvy with knowledge of Apple OSX, the Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and most social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok.
• Must have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Must possess strong organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
• Must have the ability to work independently.
• Must have a demonstrated familiarity and interest in marketing and communications.
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and interest.

• Must work effectively with coworkers, clients, and others by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner; listens to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others.
• Must be able to be on time, prepared to work and adhere to department dress code.
• Must be able to keep an accurate record of hours worked by clocking in and out correctly.
• Must be physically able to perform duties as outlined.

• Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 lbs properly.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Frequently required to sit, talk, listen, walk; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; clear verbal communication.
