Building Manager Trainee

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

The Building Manager trainee will be trained to develop and understand the activities, services and the general operation of the Titan Student Union.  They are expected to become familiar with a variety of building systems, including audio-visual equipment and computerized environmental control systems.  The trainee will be instructed on how to independently make decisions that will include all aspects of event and emergency management and on how to supervise events that occur in the Titan Student Union. 

  • Oversee the Titan Student Union for cleanliness and safety
  • Open and close the Titan Student Union as scheduled
  • Ensure customer service is conducted in a courteous and professional manner to all customers and employees
  • Perform regular safety and security checks of all interior and exterior areas of the Titan Student Union
  • Close out building cash registers/funds for events requiring cash ticket sales, complete all related financial records; and securing funds in safe
  • Adhere to uniform standards
  • Perform audio-visual setups and physical setups as required
  • Monitor events and meetings to ensure facilities and equipment are properly used
  • Prepare a written report of each shift worked
  • Work with TSU customers, program advisors, food service personnel, campus police, and other University officials to ensure that events are properly managed and controlled.
  • Identify and report any malfunctions of lighting, doors, locks, plumbing, or any other building systems as required
  • Keep records of customer use
  • Enforce TSU policies and regulations; prepare accident and incident reports; contact appropriate TSU personnel in case of emergencies and oversee all emergency management functions in the absence of full-time staff
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety procedures. Attend safety meetings as scheduled.
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends – sometimes on short notice
  • Ability to effectively interact with students, staff, and the general public
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Work Experience Requirements and Abilities: 

Education:

  • Must be a California State University, Fullerton student and be enrolled in at least six (6) units per semester

Experience:

  • Pervious cash handling or customer service experience.
  • One (1) year of pervious work experience preferred

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively interact with a diverse population to include students, staff, and the general public

Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed

  • routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.

Typical Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination, corrected hearing and vision to normal range, clear verbal communication, listening.
  • Depending on job tasks, physical demands will require lifting, pushing, pulling, walking, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, climbing, and working in confined space, lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying loads.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to safely carry and lift up to 50 lbs.

Special Requirements

  • The Trainee will be required to demonstrate the skills and knowledge of this position at the end of 3 months.
  • Must be First Aid and CPR certified within three (3) months of employment.
  • Must take a hearing test within three (3) months of employment and annual thereafter.
