Climbing Wall Attendant

Starting Salary- $15.50/hour

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under minimum supervision, the Wall Attendant will safely and professionally facilitate group reservations for the climbing wall and boulder.

·         Check the wall, boulder, floor, and equipment per the safety checklist prior to each climbing session. 

·         Remove any equipment deemed unsafe and report it to supervisor.

·         Verify participants or parents have completed required paperwork/waivers as required.

·         Give age appropriate safety orientation.

·         Instruct all participants in the following: Proper use equipment-climbing harness, helmet, shoes; buddy check; Knot craft (figure 8 follow-through knot, finishing knots), belay techniques-motion/stance/do’s and dont’s

·         Enforce safety at all times.

·         Maintain accurate records of participation for each session/activity

·         Adhere to all policies and procedures per the Climbing Wall Manual

·         Responsible for preparing accident, missing item and incident reports as required, and contacting appropriate University personnel in case of emergencies within the necessary time frame

·         Must maintain strict adherence to safety procedures and attend all safety meetings as scheduled

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education, Work Experience Requirements and Abilities:

Education:

  • Must be enrolled in or accepted to California State University Fullerton.

Experience:

  • Climbing or outdoor recreation experience is preferred.

 

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Must be able to be on time, prepared to work and adhere to department dress code.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must be able to stand for periods at a time.
  • Ability to monitor and safely instruct climbers in proper technique to reduce risk.

  • Patience, concentration, and understanding for long periods of time.

Typical Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Frequently required to stand, talk, listen and walk; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; clear verbal communication.

Special Requirements:

·         Required to be Limited Mandated Reporter.

·         First Aid, AED, and CPR Certification required within three (3) months of employment.
