Student Position – Intramural Sports Lead

Starting Pay Rate - $14.78


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Intramural Sports Leads are responsible for direct supervision of intramural sports participants, spectators, and officials. They are responsible for policy interpretation, program implementation, on-site decision-making, and conflict resolution. The staff is also responsible to ensure participant, spectator, and staff safety including the playability of facilities and of sports equipment.

  • Assist with developing strategic partnerships with community groups.
  • Record and update participation and league statistics.
  • Assist with participant information meetings.
  • Assist with safety and risk management related staff meetings.
  • Assist with maintaining up-to-date manuals, brochures, or other publications for Intramurals.
  • Assist in development and coordination of promotional and special events for intramurals.
  • Answer telephone/email inquiries about program events.
  • Oversee intramurals, tournaments and event set-ups in absence of IM Coordinator.
  • Responsible for preparing accident, missing item and incident reports as required, and contacting appropriate University personnel in case of emergencies within the necessary time frame.
  • Must maintain strict adherence to safety procedures and attend all safety meetings as scheduled.
  • Assist Coordinator with Intramural Staff and Officials trainings in sports as assigned.
  • Assist in Recruiting, scheduling, training, supervising, and evaluating staff members on policy and procedures.
  • Assist and adheres to department risk management efforts for all programs and facilities on areas of responsibility.
  • Assist intramural/event registration, payments, and oversee intramural/event rosters.
  • Communicate accurately and timely with students, and staff as needed.
  • Assist IM Coordinator to develop and evaluate intramural sports, events, and activities to meet the needs of students and student interest.
  • Compliance in evaluation process.
  • Inventory intramural/event equipment.
  • Know the court/field dimensions and proper setup for assigned sport/activity.
  • Control disruptions while games are in progress.
  • Review Intramural Sports Safety Checklist before the start of day’s activities.
  • Ensure that issues addressed on IM Sports Safety Checklist have been corrected/fixed. Submit Safety Checklists to Clerical Assistant.
  • Must attend all mandatory meetings.
  • Responsible for the set up and break down of all intramural activities.
  • Assist Intramural Coordinator with the day-to-day operations of intramurals.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education, Work Experience Requirements and Abilities:


  • Must be enrolled in or accepted to California State University Fullerton.


  • Must have administrative skills.
  • Must have been a sports official.
  • Must knowledge of intramural sports programs.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of game and rules and Intramural Policies.
  • Must be able to maintain strict adherence to all policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to be on time, prepared to work and adhere to department dress code.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Know, apply, and enforce rules for assigned sport/activity.
  • Demonstrates good verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Displays a positive attitude with customers, coworkers and toward work.
  • Demonstrates the ability to help others adapt to new situations.
  • Must be able to accept instruction/constructive criticism from supervisor.
  • Must be able to recover from and continue to work successfully following disappointments, setbacks, or mistakes.
  • Must be able to work through bad experiences by assessing what caused them, what can be done to repair them and how to avoid them in the future.
  • Must be able to keep an accurate record of hours worked by clocking in and out correctly.

Typical Mental Requirements: 

  • Patience, concentration, and understanding for long periods of time.

Typical Physical Requirements:

  • Must be physically able to work outdoors and stand for long periods of time at minimum 6 hours per day.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to safely carry and lift up to 50 lbs.

Special Requirements

  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED Certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Required to be a Limited Mandated Reporter and sign ASI Limited Mandated Reporter Form.
  • Must be available to work One-Day Tournaments in the absence of IM Coordinator as needed.
  • Intramural Leads must also be able to officiate/score keep for assigned sport/activity as needed.
  • Participation in Campus Recreation Intramural training clinic is required
